Simmons Cone Crushers
The Simmons cone crusher — also referred to as the spring cone crusher — is one of the most proven and widely deployed cone crusher designs in the global crushing industry. Its operating principle is based on the gyrating motion of the crushing head driven by the eccentric bushing, with the bowl assembly held in position by a ring of compression springs that provide both the clamping force required for crushing and the overload protection mechanism that allows the crusher to pass uncrushable tramp material by temporarily lifting the bowl against the spring resistance.
The Simmons cone crusher design has been refined over decades of industrial service and is valued for its robust mechanical simplicity, its ability to handle abrasive and hard rock feed materials with good liner life, and the wide availability of wear parts and technical expertise associated with this well-established crusher type. XINGAONAI Group manufactures Simmons cone crushers across a range of sizes corresponding to the standard PYB, PYD, and PYZ series designations, covering secondary, tertiary, and fine crushing duties from small to large capacity applications.
The three Simmons cone crushers visible under construction in this video are at various stages of the assembly sequence — allowing viewers to observe the main frame and eccentric assembly installation, the spring cylinder arrangement around the upper frame, and the bowl and concave installation that completes the crushing chamber assembly on units at a more advanced stage of build.
Single Cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crushers
The single cylinder hydraulic cone crusher represents the modern evolution of cone crusher technology, incorporating a hydraulic adjustment and tramp iron relief system in place of the mechanical spring assembly used in the Simmons design. In this configuration, a single large-diameter hydraulic cylinder positioned beneath the main shaft provides both the gap adjustment function — allowing the closed-side setting to be changed rapidly and precisely by extending or retracting the cylinder — and the overload protection function, through a hydraulic relief valve that allows the cylinder to retract when crushing force exceeds the set relief pressure.
The single cylinder hydraulic design offers several operational advantages over the spring cone crusher that make it the preferred choice for many modern crushing plant applications. Hydraulic gap adjustment allows the closed-side setting to be changed under load without stopping the crusher, enabling operators to respond quickly to changes in feed material characteristics or product specification requirements without production interruption. The hydraulic clearing function allows the crushing chamber to be cleared of compacted material after a power failure or tramp iron event by fully retracting the cylinder and lowering the head, without the manual intervention required to clear a jammed spring cone crusher.
The single cylinder design also allows the main shaft and head assembly to be supported on a spherical plain bearing at the bottom of the machine rather than on a bronze bushing socket, which improves the load distribution under the eccentric crushing forces and contributes to longer bearing life in demanding hard rock applications.
The three single cylinder hydraulic cone crushers visible in this video are being assembled alongside the Simmons units, demonstrating XINGAONAI Group's capability to manage concurrent production of different crusher models and configurations within the same workshop environment — a production management discipline that is essential for a manufacturer serving customers with diverse crusher type requirements across multiple simultaneous projects.
